New Update from Google: Core Web Vitals

Google has recently introduced some new features for ranking web pages. Along with existing features, the Core Web Vitals will be used to assess user experience quality for web pages and rank the pages according to the experience quality. graphic with Google logo

Since 2017, Google has emphasized user experience. To this end, Google has developed Core Web Vitals, a set of metrics used for this purpose. Web user experience is affected by many components, but Core Web Vitals focuses specifically on loading experience, page interactivity and visual stability of page content. Core Web Vitals replaces the Speed Report.

Metrics in Core Web Vitals include:

  • Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures loading performance. Best experience occurs when LCP happens within 2.5 seconds of a page starting to load.
  • First Input Delay (FID) measures interactivity, which should be less than 100 milliseconds for a good user experience.
  • Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) measures visual stability; a good experience occurs with a CLS less than 0.1.

Core Web Vitals in Search Console will help page owners evaluate their pages on more than page speed, which will help improve user experience.
